If your department employs international students, please be reminded of the following Immigration and Naturalization Service rules. Departments are expected to adhere to these rules:
Some international students are employed in more than one department. The 20 hour limit is the maximum for all positions. If you employ an international student and expect him/her to work 20 hours per week in your department, you should make sure that he/she is not employed elsewhere on campus.
Terms of a Graduate Assistant position require a student to work 20 hours per week. Graduate Assistants may not; therefore, hold other jobs on campus for which they could work any hours beyond the 20 required for the GA position.
Failure to adhere to this 20 hour limit potentially places the student and the University in violation of INS regulations. Violations can result in serious repercussions for both the student and the University.
