The Post-9/11 GI Bill® / Chapter 33 helps Veterans or Family to pay for some, or all, of the cost of school or training. Using the Post-9/11 GI Bill®, the VA will pay the tuition directly to the school, and send the student a monthly housing stipend based on location, along with $500 per semester (Spring and Fall) to aid in book fees. The student does not make any payments directly to the school with the Post-9/11 GI Bill®. For more information, including criteria for use, see the VA’s Post-9/11 GI Bill® website.
The Vocational Rehab and Employment (VR&E) program provides services to eligible Service members and Veterans with service-connected disabilities to help them prepare for a new career.
The Montgomery GI Bill® – Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR, Chapter 1606) provides up to 36 months of education benefits to members of the Selected Reserve. This includes the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard Reserves. It also includes the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard. Payment rates are based on enrollment status and increase every October.
If you’re a dependent spouse or child—or the surviving spouse or child—of a Veteran, you may qualify for Chapter 35 (also called Chapter 35 benefits). The DEA program provides up to 36 months of education and pays the stipend directly to the student. Children who are determined eligible have until the age of 26, and spouses have up to 10 years of eligibility, at a maximum of 36 months of benefits.
If you are currently serving in the military, you may be eligible for funding through the Department of Defense Tuition Assistance program. This program provides 16 credit hours per year of covered tuition cost.
