Calendar Year 2020 Holiday Schedule
According to the Board of Regents policy, each institution within the University System of Georgia is allowed twelve (12) paid holidays each calendar year for employees at the institution. After receiving input from the campus community and consulting the academic calendar, the President’s Cabinet and Staff Council have adopted the following Calendar Year 2020 Official Holiday Schedule for Georgia Southern University.
New Year’s Day | Wednesday, January 1 |
MLK Day | Monday, January 20 |
Memorial Day | Monday, May 25 |
Independence Day | Friday, July 3 |
Labor Day | Monday, September 7 |
Thanksgiving Holidays | Thursday-Friday, November 26 & 27 |
Winter Break | Friday-Thursday, December 25-31 |
Note: The Winter Break is immediately followed by the Jan. 1, 2021 holiday, meaning the University will be closed for 8 consecutive days.
All regular benefited employees working full-time or part-time 20 hours or more per week will be paid for the holidays. Non-exempt employees scheduled to work on a holiday, will be given 8 hours of holiday pay plus pay for the actual hours worked on that holiday.

After consulting the academic calendar and receiving input from the campus community and Staff Council, the President’s Cabinet has adopted the following Calendar Year 2021 Official Holiday Schedule for Georgia Southern University.

Thanksgiving Holidays | November 25th & 26th (Thursday and Friday) |
Winter Break | December 27th-31st (Monday through Friday) |
Classes will not be held the week of Thanksgiving. If employees want to take additional leave during the Thanksgiving week or in advance of the Winter Break, they must follow the procedures to request annual leave or compensatory time.
