
Georgia Southern University, in partnership with the Georgia Department of Public Health, will host the 4th Annual Rural HIV Research and Training Conference on Friday, Oct. 23, through Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Coastal Georgia Center in Savannah.

Georgia Southern University’s Department of Music will host the Southern Invitational Choral Competition and Festival on Friday, Oct. 23. In its inaugural year, the state competition features some of the top high school choirs from across Georgia.

Eagle Techxpo is Georgia Southern’s yearly technology conference showcasing the latest technologies for the classroom, workplace and home from some of the biggest names in technology. This year’s keynote speaker is Swami Chandrasekaran, executive architect at IBM Watson Innovations.

After months of planning, the Garden of the Coastal Plain at Georgia Southern University now has a new name, the Botanic Garden at Georgia Southern University, and with it, a dynamic new plan for growth.


The Georgia Southern Opera presents “Opera Breve VII: Trick AND Treat!” This year’s double bill is the Opera’s seventh annual installment of the popular “Opera Breve” series and is comprised of two American one-act operas, Gian Carlo Menotti’s “The Medium” and William Bolcom’s “Lucrezia.” Performances will take place on Friday, Oct. 16, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 18, at 3 p.m., in the Emma Kelly Theatre at the Averitt Center for the Arts, 33 E. Main Street. Admission to the event is free.

Georgia Southern University Business Innovation Group (BIG) has received a Gold Excellence in Economic Development Award from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) for its 2015 project in entrepreneurship for communities with populations of 25,000 – 200,000. In addition, the Georgia Southern University City Campus was recognized with a Bronze Excellence in Economic Development Award by the IEDC for its 2015 project in real estate redevelopment and reuse for communities with populations of 25,000 – 200,000.

On Monday, Oct. 12, Georgia Southern University kicks off a Homecoming week full of festivities and activities centered around the theme “Viva Las Southern,” a Las Vegas-style celebration.

The Dean of Students Office at Georgia Southern University has received a $6,500 grant through the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety to participate in the Georgia Young Adult Program.
