
The National Youth-At-Risk Center (NYAR) has awarded a research grant to two Georgia Southern University professors for a study titled “The Impact of CrossFit Intervention for Youth-At-Risk at the Boys and Girls Club of Bulloch County.”

The Herty Advanced Materials Development Center is sponsoring final-year capstone projects for 18 undergraduate engineering students at Georgia Southern University. In this year’s projects, students will assess a range of industrial problems and work in teams to find solutions. Using Herty’s expertise and resources, one team of students will address the issue of wastewater management to reduce water usage, and another team will focus on the equally important challenge of developing a process for measuring the performance of materials produced at the Center and used in the transportation sector.

Tattered jeans and ill-fitted tops will no longer cause problems for the Georgia Southern community. The FMAD Stitch Alterations Shop, a project of the Department of Fashion Merchandising and Apparel Design (FMAD) opened on campus Sept. 1 and is opening up new possibilities for designers at the University.

An exhibit featuring works from the late Professor Emeritus Patricia J. Walker’s studio opens Oct. 10 at Indigo Sky Community Gallery in Savannah, Georgia. Proceeds from the sale of the works of art on display will help endow the Pat Walker Scholarship in Painting, which will provide needed financial support for students in the University’s Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art (BFSDoArt).

The Georgia Southern Symphony and String Camerata will present a free concert on Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center.

On Saturday, Sept. 26, Georgia Southern will present its 3rd annual science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) festival from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

The Georgia Southern Center for Sustainability (CfS) is taking over the Bulloch County courthouse lawn on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the third annual GreenFest event. This celebration of sustainable activities is sure to have everyone in the community going green.
