Georgia Southern University establishes learning center in Ireland
On the 24th anniversary of its founding, Georgia Southern University’s Center for Irish Research and Teaching (CIRT) is moving in new directions locally and abroad to provide unparalleled opportunities for students. The University announced Monday the center is relocating from the University’s Statesboro Campus to the Armstrong Campus in Savannah and will be bolstered by a new learning center being established on the southeast coast of Ireland.

Georgia Southern master’s student creates thesis exhibition by rolling the dice
Turning fantasy into reality, Georgia Southern University art student Zak Kelley used Dungeons and Dragons to help shape his MFA thesis exhibition titled “Neo_Fluxus and Dragons.” His work will be on display from March 28 to April 1 at the Center for Art and Theatre’s University Gallery on the Statesboro Campus, with a reception to be held on March 29 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Georgia Southern graduate student turns art into therapy for teachers, receives 2019 national Emerging Professional Development Leadership Award
Georgia Southern University College of Education graduate student Nick Wozniak, enrolled in the M.Ed. Counselor Education program, recently won the Emerging Professional Development Leadership Award at the 2019 National Association of Professional Development Schools Conference. The award recognized his work with the creation and implementation of an expressive arts workshop for Richmond Hill High School teachers.

On Wednesday, March 27, Georgia Southern University College of Education will host a screening of “The School in the Cloud,” a film that explores the potential of self-organized learning. The screening, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 6 p.m. in the Ogeechee Theatre.

Georgia Southern sport management students compete in case study competition
Georgia Southern University seniors and sport management majors Gabriel Anderson, Stacie Anderson and Jenna Kniss, were selected by faculty to represent Georgia Southern at the 2019 Applied Sport Management Association (ASMA) Conference Case Study Competition in February. The conference, held in Nashville, Tennessee, tasked students with finding a location for the next Major League Soccer expansion team, writing a report about their recommendations and presenting their findings to a panel of experts in the soccer industry. Georgia Southern faculty member selected as co-editor for personal training textbook
Georgia Southern University Assistant Professor of health and kinesiology, Ron Snarr, Jr., Ph.D., was recently selected as the co-editor for the 3rd edition of the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s (NSCA) Essentials of Personal Training textbook. Snarr will also author two chapters in the book; one on resistance training programming and one on proper exercise techniques. The textbook serves as a resource for individuals looking to become certified as a personal trainer through the NSCA. The NSCA is one of the leading organizations in the field of exercise science dedicated to advancing the strength and conditioning profession.

Georgia Southern faculty member serves as guest lecturer in Sweden
Amy Chall, MLS (ASCP), a lecturer in the Department of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Sciences, recently visited Kalmar, Sweden, to serve as a guest lecturer at Linnaeus University. Chall provided a lecture on blood diseases and her current research on targeted anti-cancer ablation therapy to second-year students at Linnaeus University.
