Georgia Southern only university named 2019 Project Play Champion

Georgia Southern is the only university and one of 20 organizations nationwide to be selected as a 2019 Project Play Champion by the Aspen Institute’s Sports and Society Program. Launched in 2013, Project Play focuses on developing, applying and sharing knowledge that helps build healthy communities through sports.

Georgia Southern professors named Governor’s Teaching Fellows

Professor of Geography Wei Tu, Ph.D., and Writing and Linguistics Lecturer Amanda Hedrick have been selected as Governor’s Teaching Fellows for the 2019-2020 academic year. Tu, from the College of Science and Mathematics, and Hedrick, from the College of the Arts and Humanities, are two of 17 fellows selected this year.

From Aug. 1, 2018 to July 31, 2019, Georgia Southern University students performed 46,415 community service hours. The hours had an estimated monetary impact of $932,104.

The Inspiring Programs in STEM Award honors colleges and universities that encourage and assist students from underrepresented groups to enter the fields of STEM.

Georgia Southern BUILD program wraps up 13th year of community service

Recently, 82 incoming freshmen at Georgia Southern University participated in the 2019 Building Undergraduate Involvement in Leadership Development (BUILD) program, coordinated by the Office of Leadership and Community Engagement (OLCE).
