Piano in the Arts continues fifth season with ‘Baroque, Romantic, Contemporary’

Pianist Daniel Schene has long been known as a consummate artist and a superlative teacher. Schene will perform “Baroque, Romantic, Contemporary” as a part of Georgia Southern University’s Piano in the Arts concert series at the Fine Arts Hall on the Armstrong Campus in Savannah on Thursday, Jan. 24, at 7:30 p.m.

Georgia Southern EAGLE Academy to host open house on Jan. 22

Georgia Southern University College of Education will host an open house for the EAGLE Academy Inclusive Post-Secondary Education program on Tuesday, Jan. 22 from 4 to 7 p.m., room 3156 of the College of Education classroom building on the Statesboro Campus.

EAGLE Academy, named for its commitment to Equal Access to Gainful Learning and Employment, is a comprehensive transitional program for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The non-degree program offers courses and internships that enhance students with life skills and assist with career aspirations. Upon completion, students earn a certificate.

The open house will be a drop-in event with presentations to be made at both 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to provide a general overview of the program as well as details on the admissions and application processes. Information on how to schedule a campus tour will also be provided.

Georgia Southern anthropology professor helps preserve oral history of commercial fishing in Georgia

Georgia Southern Anthropology Professor Jennifer Sweeney Tookes, along with University of Georgia (UGA) Associate Director of Marine Extension Bryan Fluech, will help to preserve the oral history and culture of commercial fishing in Georgia for current and future generations by presenting research at three outreach events on Jan. 31 in Statesboro, Feb. 1 in Darien and Feb. 2 in Brunswick.

Writer, naturalist blends poetry, art in exhibition on Statesboro Campus

Naturalist and poet Elizabeth Bradfield is on a mission to bring art and literature to the streets. As founder and editor-in-chief of Broadsided Press, Bradfield has published numerous poetry and art collaborations on utility poles, bathroom stall walls and notice boards around the world, showcasing the power of art as a way to transform public spaces.

Georgia Southern to host 16th annual South East Coastal Conference on Languages & Literatures

The 16th annual South East Coastal Conference on Languages and Literatures (SECCLL), featuring keynote speaker Kim Potowski, Ph.D., is set for April 11 and 12. The conference is hosted by the Georgia Southern University Department of Foreign Languages and will be held at the Georgia Tech Savannah Campus.

First-year students to represent Georgia Southern in National College Cornhole Championship

To most people, cornhole is a game played during cookouts, tailgates and beach trips, but for Georgia Southern University first-year students James Graham and Hunter Yaklin, it’s an opportunity for students from the Armstrong and Statesboro campuses to come together for a shot at earning $25,000 in scholarship money.

Georgia Southern’s START NOW events in January provide expedited admission decisions

Prospective and former undergraduate students who want to attend Georgia Southern University for the spring semester have a unique opportunity to start now through events designed to fast-track the admission process.

START NOW events provide unprecedented access to the University through same-day admission decisions, access to Financial Aid counselors while waiting for an admission decision, and academic advising if admitted. Some students may need to take a college placement exam prior to receiving a decision and can do so on-site that day.

Artist brings unique collection to Georgia Southern Statesboro Campus

Multimedia artist Lily Kuonen’s work has never been described as conventional. Her playntings, a combination of a play and a painting, are an end-result of her varied and playful approaches to contradiction, opposition, integration and connection. Some of Kuonen’s playntings will be on view at the Center for Art and Theatre’s Contemporary Gallery on the Georgia Southern University Statesboro Campus starting Jan. 14.
