Georgia Southern University’s Department of History will host Kurt Knoerl, Ph.D., assistant professor of history at Armstrong State University, as the featured speaker at the R. Frank Saunders, Jr. Fall history Lecture at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 17 in Room 2071 of the Arts Building.

FMAD senior earns apprenticeship with global fashion company

Senior fashion merchandising and apparel design (FMAD) student Kyler Arnold has had an eye for fashion and a love of design since before he can recall. So when he entered the Wrangler Competition at Greensboro Fashion Week in September, it was no surprise that his passion earned him an apprenticeship with the global denim company.

Kinesiology faculty present research in the UK

Faculty from the Georgia Southern School of Health and Kinesiology, Assistant Professor Charles “Hal” Wilson, Ph.D., and Associate Professor Jody Langdon, Ph.D., presented their research at the 11th International Council for Coaching Excellence (ICCE) Global Coach Conference in Liverpool, England, from July 31 to Aug. 2.

Eagle alumnus commands Georgia Army National Guard

The Georgia Army National Guard is made up of more than 11,000 citizen-soldiers who train in more than 79 hometown armories and regional facilities across the state. They not only respond to disturbances and natural disasters in Georgia — such as the recent Hurricane Irma — but they also fight alongside our nation’s military on battlefields around the world.

And when the Guard deploys its soldiers to fields both international and domestic, it’s an Eagle alumnus who now leads them.

Georgia Southern student Emily Oren’s solo art exhibition on view at Averitt Center’s Rosengart Gallery

The Georgia Southern University Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art (BFSDoArt) and The Averitt Center for the Arts will present Emily Oren’s solo exhibition, “Piece of Mind” Oct. 6-27 at the Averitt Center’s Rosengart Gallery. A reception for the show will be held during First Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 6.

Fifth annual GreenFest event to take place Oct. 7 in downtown

Georgia Southern University’s Center for Sustainability is gearing up for its fifth annual GreenFest event which will take place in downtown Statesboro on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in downtown Statesboro.

Georgia Southern Opera to present ‘Mansfield Park’

The Georgia Southern Opera (GSO) will present Jonathan Dove’s opera Mansfield Park at the Emma Kelly Theatre at the Averitt Center for the Arts on Friday, Oct. 20 and Saturday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.
